Upgrade operating system was created by Silvaphoenix
Hi,
My project has been running very successfully for many years on Kubuntu 18.04 and Proview 5.7.
I've got some difficulties with other applications on the computer that need updating to Kubuntu 24.04.
If I go through the Kubuntu update procedure will it affect the operability of Proview 5.7? I don't necessarily need to update Proview.
I would appreciate any advice.
Regards,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Usually some of the shared libraries linked with ProviewR has changed name, and then the executables will not start. So you have to upgrade ProviewR.

Hi Claes,
I'm persevering with this for the moment. I've installed Kubuntu 24.04 on a new SSD and tried to install pwr57. It very nearly succeeded only failed on dependency libhdf5-openmpi-100. I've not been able to find a download for this. Do you know of a work around or where it's repository is?
Regards

Hi Stephen,
I see that there is a --ignore-depends option in dpkg and you could try to install with dpkg --ignore-depends=libhdf5-openmmi-100 -i ...
It's only the process history storage server, sev_server, that actually makes any calls to libhdf5 so it's possible that everything else will start up. Although libhdf5 might occur in link files for other executables as well and that could prevent them from starting...

Thanks Claes,
The package installed ok but there are other missing files stopping it loading.
Have to think again!

Hi Claes,
After too much messing around I've now upgraded the OS to Kubuntu 24.04 LTS.
There are some issues so I do need to upgrade Proview.
Please can you point me at the download page for V5.8 (and the others) to start the upgrade process.
Thanks
Stephen
